Panal

«Panal» is the unique LP in 1973, mixing Latin psychedelic rock with South American folk songs; Panal's stated influences at the time were bands like Weather Report, Return to Forever and Santana, so you might expect a jazz fusion slant, but the persistent blasts of heavy fuzz-driven guitar and Hammond organ, underpinned by a strong rhythm section puts the album closer to Latin psych groovers like Bwana than anything else. The twist at the time was that Panal took traditional South American songs as the basis for their arrangements; add a tremendous, strong rhythm and many instrumental parts, and you have a tatsty Chilean jazz/funk/psych stew.
